Hardoi gas leak: 16 students unconscious; One was transferred to Lucknow

At least 16 students fell unconscious after a suspected gas leak at a private school in Sandila town of Hardoi district on Thursday, November 20, PTI reported.

According to District Magistrate Anunay Jha, all the affected children were taken to two private hospitals, with one student later referred to Lucknow for advanced treatment.

A sudden, strong smell of gas reportedly spread throughout the school campus, causing panic among the students and causing them to walk out of their classrooms. The teachers immediately evacuated the building and alerted the parents as well as the local administration.

DM Anunay Jha and Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena went to the school and met the children admitted in the hospital. Jha said that about 16 students were affected but the condition of all is stable at present.

“A child has been referred to King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. The source of the gas leak is yet to be identified. Necessary legal action will be taken after investigation,” he said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the affected students and conduct a thorough investigation, officials said.
