Bandipora, May 8: A serious hailstorm occurred after a serious hail after a torrential rains in the Bankoot block of Bandipora district on Wednesday. Unseasonal weather caused havoc on standing crops, fruits and vegetables, distressing farmers and residents.
According to local reports, the intensity of hailstorm affected the yield of horticulture and vegetable, especially due to complete destruction of crops, which serve as primary sources of livelihood for many families in the region.
Keeping serious in mind the situation, the Legislative Assembly members (MLA) Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat have urged the revenue department to immediately assess the limit of damage and start compensation and relief measures. The MLA said, “The people of the Bankut block have suffered significant damage. I have asked the concerned authorities to take immediate steps for on-ground evaluation and necessary support,” the MLA said.
Apart from agricultural losses, the supply of drinking water in Ladra and Gamro villages of Bandpora has been severely disrupted. MLA Bhat confirmed that he has already taken up the case with the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, seeking rapid action to restore water services in the affected areas.
