Coimbatore, Nov 19 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paused his speech at a farmers’ conference in Coimbatore to acknowledge a banner being shown in the audience, prompting a pair of schoolgirls to grab the spot and the entire nation’s attention.
Two students named Shringa and Mithra were carrying hand-written placards expressing appreciation for the country’s economic progress. It was written on the banner:
“I’ll graduate in a rank 2 economy. I’ll retire in a rank 1 economy. Thank you for your perspective.”
During his address, the Prime Minister’s eyes fell on the banner and he requested to bring it on the stage. The event staff retrieved the placard from the girls and handed it to her, prompting applause from the attendees.
PM Modi raised his hand towards the two schoolgirls and said that they had been holding their banner for a long time and their hands must have got tired. He instructed the security personnel to bring the placards immediately.
As their Hindi comments were translated into Tamil, the girls smiled brightly, clearly thrilled by the unexpected attention. When the crowd witnessed this moment, their excitement was evident.
After the program the girls interacted briefly with the media.
Shringa, a Class 8 student, said, “When I graduate, the Indian economy will be second in the world, and when I retire, it will be first. I want to thank the Prime Minister for this future.”
Mithra, who said he helped write the message, said the two designed the banner together. She also commented that she believed the lotus, the BJP’s symbol, would “bloom in Tamil Nadu” by the time she was eligible to vote.
The interaction has since been widely circulated on social media, with videos and images of the incident shared across multiple platforms.
Officials at the event did not comment further on the exchange. After receiving the banner, the Prime Minister continued his scheduled address.
