An experienced member of the Hamilton Police Service has been suspended after the discovery of a “distracted social media post” with prejudice.
The post, which was previously flagged by a media outlet, inspired the action from the Hamilton Police. Upon learning the allegations, the police force suspended the officer-with a 23-year-old member-and started an internal investigation.
The content of social media posts is unknown, and no more details were released. The experienced officer was not named in the press release.
In a statement released on Monday, the Hamilton Police Service emphasized its commitment to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, conduct and fairness among its members.
The statement said, “Any expression of ideas or support for groups promoting hatred or discrimination is contrary to our organization’s values and our duty to serve everyone in our community.”
The Hamilton police said that if the investigation determines that the officer’s conduct has violated the internal standards, it will take proper disciplinary action.
