Imphal, Oct 10 (IANS) Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday highlighted that the state offers a unique blend of natural abundance, creativity and flexibility, which is a dream come true for anyone looking for diverse opportunities.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Manipur Global Buyers and Sellers Summit held at the City Convention Centre, Imphal, the Governor said that from lush green hills to fertile valleys, the state offers many distinctive products.
He said the products include black rice (chak-hao), organic products, handlooms and handicrafts, each product enriched with the talents of its people.
Bhalla also highlighted Manipur’s abundant human resources of skilled, adaptable and entrepreneurial people and noted the growing strength of the state’s IT and services sectors, which are contributing significantly to job creation and innovation.
The Governor said that despite recent challenges, communities across Manipur, including those once displaced, have shown remarkable resilience, re-engaging in economic activities and producing value-driven products that are now reaching both national and international markets.
Emphasizing on the growing entrepreneurial spirit of the state, the Governor described the summit as much more than an event – a statement of confidence in Manipur’s potential as a strategic gateway to global trade in the Northeast.
He appreciated the concerted efforts of Directorate of Trade, Commerce and Industry, MANIDCO, MCCI in partnership with national programs like RAMP initiative of MSME Ministry to strengthen women led enterprises and promote local entrepreneurship.
With improved logistics, expansion of digital platforms and proximity to South East Asian countries, the Governor expressed hope that Manipur is poised for rapid growth through global partnerships, sustainable production and inclusive innovation.
The two-day summit, organized under the theme ‘Bridging Business Sans Borders’, is being organized as part of the Union MSME Ministry’s Initiative to Enhance and Enhance MSME Performance (RAMP).
The event is jointly organized by the Directorate of Trade, Commerce and Industry, Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MANIDCO) and Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
The Governor also visited various stalls set up by local entrepreneurs and industries as part of the summit, showcasing Manipur’s diverse range of indigenous products and innovations.
The event was attended by representatives from neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Bangladesh and Thailand, as well as Japan and several north eastern states of India, as well as local entrepreneurs and businesses, highlighting Manipur’s growing potential as a hub for regional and international trade.
Additional Chief Secretary of Textiles, Commerce & Industry and Transport Anurag Bajpai and Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Basudev Singh also attended the inaugural ceremony of the two-day summit.
