Ahmedabad, Oct 27 (IANS) The Gujarat government will observe ‘Vigilance Awareness Week 2025’ across the state from October 31 to November 6 as part of its annual initiative to promote transparency, accountability and ethical governance. The campaign, which runs under the national theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility”, started on September 10 and will continue till December 9.
The state’s special drive includes disposal of pending complaints and cases, capacity building programmes, better asset management and digital initiatives to enhance service delivery.
Various government departments, boards, corporations, public enterprises and local bodies will participate in the event. The planned activities include integrity pledge, awareness campaign on preventive vigilance, resolution of pending cases, system reforms, digital transparency measures, training programs and outreach on vigilance awareness.
The officials stressed that vigilance has become more important than ever to maintain peace, security and integrity within the society. Gujarat Vigilance Commission, Gandhinagar said the week-long festival is in line with the national campaign of the Central Vigilance Commission to be organized from October 27 to November 2, 2025.
Over 40,000 cases are pending at consumer redressal forums in Gujarat, placing the state fourth in the country in terms of consumer case backlog. In family courts across 50 jurisdictions in Gujarat, more than 50,000 cases are pending, with about 161 new cases being filed every day, and the backlog has increased by nearly 60 per cent over the last year.
The Government of Gujarat has taken several initiatives to address the backlog of complaints and pending cases while strengthening governance systems. Through the SWAGAT (State-wide Attention to Grievances by Application of Technology) portal, the state has resolved over 27,600 complaints since November 2021, achieving nearly 90 per cent resolution rate.
A separate visitor-management system, launched in January 2023, enables citizens to meet the Chief Minister directly and lodge complaints, with an 83 per cent resolution rate.
The government has also issued instructions that if any application is pending in a government office without valid reason, “strict action” will be taken against the officials responsible.
These steps reflect Gujarat’s effort towards digital-first, citizen-centric governance aimed at reducing pendency of cases, promoting transparency and restoring public trust.
