Gandhinagar, Nov 1 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthplace, the historic town of Vadnagar in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, is set to become another milestone in its journey towards becoming a global tourism and cultural destination.
The state government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced the construction of Vrindavan Gauchar Park, India’s first-of-its-kind integrated cow-based rural development project.
The initiative, with an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore, aims to transform Vadnagar into a “teerthdham” (spiritual destination) of cow service and an international model of sustainable rural innovation.
The Vrindavan Gauchar Park, to be developed near Gaurikund in Amarthol, will go far beyond the idea of a traditional cow shed.
It will integrate modern veterinary care, milk processing units, sustainable grazing management and research facilities to create a model where tradition meets technology.
Equipped with CCTV surveillance, a security wall and a dedicated animal hospital, the park will ensure the welfare of the cattle while providing visitors a glimpse of India’s evolving rural ecosystem.
Plans also include breeding programs for high-quality indigenous cattle and development of a tourism-friendly ecosystem that attracts tourists from across India and abroad.
Gujarat Urban Development Company will serve as the nodal agency for the project, overseeing planning, infrastructure and coordination with local and district-level bodies.
The strategic vision of the park extends beyond animal welfare – it aims to establish a cow-centric economic and social model, which aligns with the Prime Minister’s broader vision of “Gramodaya Se Bharat Udaya” (From Villages to Rise of India).
Officials describe the project as a “rural innovation hub”, designed to promote dairy entrepreneurship, biogas and organic fertilizer production, and women empowerment through active participation in the dairy and cooperative sectors.
By promoting cattle health, increasing productivity and facilitating the sale of dairy products, the initiative is expected to increase farmers’ income and create new employment opportunities in the veterinary, dairy and transportation sectors.
Beyond economic development, Vrindavan Gauchar Park will serve as a fusion point of heritage, culture and ecology.
The park will connect the rich heritage of Vadnagar – from its ancient temples and stepwells to the historic forts – into a new tourism circuit.
Visitors will be able to experience the synergy of agritourism, sustainable energy practices and cultural conservation in one integrated space.
Plans also include markets dedicated to local artisans, handicrafts and traditional cuisine, which will directly benefit the local economy.
