Gujarat Gambhir Bridge Decrease: Two more bodies recovered, Death toll increases to 13

Officials said on Thursday that the incident of death in the Gambira Bridge collapse in Vadodara, Gujarat has increased to 13.

A part of the Gambhir Bridge connecting Vadodara and Anand fell a day earlier and fell into the Mahisagar river.

The rescue operation continued this morning and Vadodara District Collector Anil Dhamelia visited the site today.

The Collector and other local administration officials are reviewing and stocking relief and rescue operations on the site of collapse from Wednesday.

State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) are conducting rescue and relief operations on the second day of the incident.

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah yesterday expressed deep grief over the bridge collapse.

“The accident in Vadodara district of Gujarat is very sad. The NDRF team reached the HS accident site and engaged in relief and rescue operations, and the victims are being provided all possible assistance. My condolences are with those who have lost their loved ones in the accident.

Vadodara Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohan Anand Siyad collapsed a slab of 10-15 meters in the middle of the bridge yesterday. Two trucks, two pickup vans, and a rickshaw fell into the river, while two vehicles remained stranded on the bridge.

He said yesterday that nine people have been rescued, five of them have been sent to SSG Hospital. “None of the people who have been saved are important,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next family members of the deceased in the collapse of the bridge. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of those killed in the collapse of the bridge in Vadodara. He also announced Rs 50,000 for the injured. (AI)
