Gandhinagar, 22 September (IANS) Director General of Police, Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay organized a video conference with Police Commissioners, District Police Heads and Range IGS, which started on Monday, which was reviewing security arrangements across the state in view of Navratri.
The DGP directed the officials to put special emphasis on four major areas- laws and orders, safety of women, traffic management and police response and behavior.
To strengthen security, 16 additional SRPs (State Reserve Police) companies and two state action force units have been deployed. The legs and vehicle patrolling will intensify, especially in sensitive and isolated areas.
For the safety of women, ‘that teams’ will be deployed in traditional dress at garba venue and crowded places to maintain prudent monitoring and prevent harassment. Citizens can also take immediate assistance through ‘Jan Guard 112’ helpline.
Regarding the traffic management, the police have been instructed to remain on a high warning to avoid the crowd during the festive crowd, with additional personnel for smooth flow. To ensure an effective response, the control papers will be reinforced, senior officials will be present, and quick-respondent teams for the emergency will be on the standby.
DGP Sahe also underlined that police behavior should motivate confidence, ensuring that the citizens feel safe while participating in late night celebration.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the vibrant Navratri Festival 2025 at the GMDC Ground in Ahmedabad, performing a grand cultural performance by more than 1,000 artists with a grand cultural performance. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Tourism and Culture Minister Mulubhai Bera, Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma and Kunwarjibhai Halpal, Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibaben Jain and other dignitaries.
Expanding the Navratri greeting, the Chief Minister said that the announcement of GST reforms will turn this year’s Navratri and Diwali into a celebration of both happiness and savings on the first day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s festival. He urged people to embrace India by choosing indigenous products – from dress and jewelery to cosmetics – for festive celebrations.
Prior to the inauguration, Patel visited thematic exhibitions based on ninth compilation, photo zone, a children’s city, food courts and handicraft markets, interacting with women from self-help groups. He also opened a multimedia exhibition organized by the Central Bureau of Communication on the subject of ’11 years of good governance ‘.
