New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a unity march along with several other programs were organized across the country on Sunday, giving the national message of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, who led a massive unity march in Surat’s Majura assembly constituency, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the country “a historic vision of unity” after the NDA’s sweeping victory in Bihar.
“PM Modi has demonstrated historic unity in the country after many years. This unity is defined by only one principle – development, growth and development; India First, India First and India First,” Sanghvi told IANS during the march.
He said that on the call of the Prime Minister, people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari are participating in unity programs in honor of Sardar Patel.
Deputy CM Sanghvi led an eight-kilometre long Majura Unity March along with thousands of residents.
“Wherever I see, people are saluting the statue of Sardar Saheb with pride. All communities, all sections of the society are participating,” he said.
Celebrations were held across the country.
In Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar, the world’s tallest statue – the Statue of Unity – gained major attention after filmmaker Boney Kapoor paid tribute to Sardar Patel.
His presence added star power to the commemoration, attracting considerable public and media attention.
A big Tricolor Yatra was organized under the ‘Run for Unity’ program in Gaura assembly constituency of Gonda in Uttar Pradesh.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh and State Prisons Minister Dara Singh Chauhan led the march, which saw enthusiastic participation from local residents.
In Rajasthan, BJP leaders in Kota led a ‘padayatra’ emphasizing the message of national unity.
Party workers, youth groups and local citizens paid tribute to Sardar Patel’s efforts in uniting India.
Ahmedabad witnessed the biggest event of the day, which included a 2,000-foot Tiranga march, a Bullet bike rally and a grand unity march in the Nicol area.
Senior leaders including ministers Jitu Bhai Vaghani, Darshan Vaghela, state BJP president Jagdish Panchal and several MLAs and MPs attended, and reaffirmed Sardar Patel’s legacy as the “Iron Man of India”.
