Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia, Gujarat on Thursday and praised the project for bringing water to drought affected areas.
CM Abdullah also expressed optimism that similar projects for Jammu and Kashmir can be considered with the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty to overcome the lack of water and electricity.
Talking to reporters, Omar Abdullah said, “This dam has brought water to areas that did not know anything other than drought … It has been unfortunate in Jammu and Kashmir that we could not even imagine such projects because we were not allowed to stop water.
Expressing his praise, the Chief Minister visited the statue of Ekta in Gujarat, and said, “I did not know that the statue of Ekta would be so spectacular. It is a true tribute to a great identity for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and New India.”
A day earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Paid a Courtesy Visit to Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.
JK Chief Minister reached Gujarat for a tourism fair, which is a step to attract a significant number of tourists from the state.
JK CM’s office posted on X, “During his visit to Gujarat for TTF, Ahmedabad, Chief Minister, with his advisor @nasirsiogami, called Gujarat @bhupendrap1 in Gandhinagar today on the honorable semi of @bhupendrapjp.
Speaking on his visit, CM Omar Abdullah said that there are three states including Gujarat, from where maximum tourists reach Jammu and Kashmir.
“Given the last 30-35 years, since the start of tourism, three states have been the primary source of J&K: Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal. My team and I have come here for a tourist fair, to speak for JK, hope to see a good number of tourists from Gujarat,” He said. (AI)
