State government spokesperson and minister Jitu Vaghani told reporters that this decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The Chief Minister has given in-principle approval for the formation of nine new district central co-operative banks. Over the past several years, nine new districts have been created in Gujarat from existing larger districts.

“Now the state government has decided to bifurcate the DCCBs of the districts from which nine new districts were formed, and the new DCCBs will be allotted to the newly formed districts,” he said.
DCCB of Panchmahal district will be bifurcated to establish DCCB in Dahod district.
Similarly, Sabarkantha Bank will be bifurcated for Aravalli district, Surat Bank for Tapi district, Vadodara Bank for Chhota Udepur district, Jamnagar Bank for Devbhoomi Dwarka district, Junagadh Bank for Porbandar district, Kheda Bank for Anand district and Valsad Bank for Dangs and Navsari districts, the minister said.

Vaghani said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to increase the coverage of rural cooperative banks in all the districts of the country. To achieve this objective, a special initiative has been taken by the Ministry of Cooperation under the leadership of Union Cooperation Minister Amitbhai Shah.”
He said, “As part of this initiative, NABARD has submitted an approach note to the Ministry of Cooperation for the formation of new District Central Cooperative Banks in several districts across the country. This approach note also proposes to set up nine new District Central Cooperative Banks in Gujarat.”
He said that these new district central co-operative banks will increase facilities for farmers and rural citizens in the state.
“This decision will make it easier for farmers in remote areas to get loans and strengthen the rural economy,” the minister said.
The minister said that the state government will now send a proposal to the Reserve Bank through NABARD for the formation of banks and will adopt further legal process.
