Gandhinagar, November 18 (IANS) Ahmedabad is fast emerging as a sports hub and making its presence felt on the global stage.
Khel Mahakumbh, an initiative that started 15 years ago, brought sports enthusiasts and lovers from across the state to compete across various disciplines and with the recent inauguration of the country’s largest sports complex at Naranpura, it got a new impetus in its quest to become a true sports city.
The latest addition to the city’s expanding sports infrastructure is the construction of a state-of-the-art complex at a cost of Rs 52 crore in the Vastral area of eastern Ahmedabad. This multistorey sports complex will become operational soon. It has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities for athletes.
The city residents are happy with the world-class sports infrastructure being developed in Ahmedabad. He says that the state-of-the-art sports facilities will provide an opportunity to the youth to play and earn their name in the world of sports.
Notably, Gujarat’s largest city Ahmedabad is set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and hence has started preparations for the mega event.
This sports complex built by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will add to the sports assets of the city and prepare the city for world class sporting events.
Some time back, Home Minister Amit Shah had inaugurated the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, the largest of its kind in the country.
Built at Rs 825 crore, the complex has a world-class aquatic complex and state-of-the-art facilities for indoor and outdoor sports as well as training and residential facilities for athletes.
During the inauguration of the Sports Complex, the Home Minister also expressed confidence that Ahmedabad is poised to become the Sports Capital of Asia as well as a memorable venue for the Commonwealth Games.
