GST cut is dashera gift; Will Siddaramaiah reduce taxes: East CM Bomai

Bengaluru, 22 September (IANS) former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavraj Bomai has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Center for giving a Dashera gift to the people by reducing the burden of his tax.

However, he criticized the Siddaramaiah government and said that citizens of Karnataka are now asking whether the state government will reduce the taxes levied on them.

In a post on X, Bomai said on Monday: “The introduction of GST in 2017 was an adventure decision. Even during the Kovid period, the Prime Minister ensured that no state should face difficulties. Now, keeping in mind the stability of the economy, the government has left only 90 percent of goods compared to only 5 percent. The system was simplified.

Bomai mentioned that the prices of most essential commodities used by the common people-as yogurt, milk, and ghee-now will come down. It really shows that the government is standing with the poor. Along with this, the economy will get all kinds of incentives. With this improvement, India will move rapidly towards becoming a five-trilian-dollar economy.

The MP appealed, “At the same time, this step has become a powerful step in the creation of a self -sufficient India, as was conceived by Prime Minister Modi. Everyone should cooperate with this national call wholeheartedly.”

Bomai attacked the state government to implement unnecessary taxes on the people. “At a time when the PM has reduced GST and has given a big festive gift to the common people, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Congress government in Karnataka has earned the notorious to implement additional taxes of Rs 1 lakh crore in the last two years, soon, they have increased by petrol, motor vehicles, stamp duty, and amazement.

He said that the Siddaramaiah government has also imposed taxes on water and wind, and in Bengaluru, a specially imposed on waste. “This clearly shows that the Congress government is opposed to people and is giving them a burden with heavy taxes. In this situation, people are questioning whether Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself has reduced the taxes he has imposed himself,” Bomai said.
