Greg Rutherford has given an update on his health after a “serious injury” forced him to withdraw from the Dancing On Ice finale.
The retired athlete shared a photo from his hospital bed on Monday, writing “recovery begins now” after receiving treatment hours before the game ITV Sunday night show.
He added: “After a pretty rough first night I’m looking forward to getting everything sorted and stitched up so I can get back to normal.”
The 37-year-old was unable to perform with professional partner Vanessa James, leaving Made in Chelsea star Miles Nazaire, broadcaster Adele Roberts and soap star Ryan Thomas to compete for the title title.

“I’m heartbroken but these things happen. So stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated. It’s been a nightmare.”

He then thanked everyone for their support and congratulated Thomas on his win.
“Well done, man, I’m so happy to have you as a lifelong friend,” he said, adding: “He’s had his share of ups and downs growing up, so it’s great to win.”
Going into the show’s finale, Rutherford was at the top of the leaderboard and was named the second favorite to win by gambling website William Hill.
Rutherford won a gold medal in the long jump at the 2012 London Olympics before retiring in 2018 due to an ankle injury Olympic Gamesand won a bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
