Kolkata, Nov 25 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led grand alliance in Bihar faced a massive defeat in the recently concluded assembly elections in the state as the grand alliance allies failed to timely realize the game played by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on behalf of the BJP, despite there being a special intensive review (SIR) which was conducted just before the elections.
Addressing a massive ‘anti-SIR’ rally at Bangaon in North 24 Parganas district, the Chief Minister said, “In Bihar, the grand alliance partners could not realize the game played by the ECI through SIR. By the time they realized, it was too late. That is why they could not even give a proper fight.”
However, he said that he had realized the Election Commission’s game in time, and hence the Commission would not be completely successful in implementing the same ploy in West Bengal, where assembly elections are to be held next year.
The Chief Minister said, “West Bengal is not Bihar. The BJP is desperate to gain power in West Bengal and is taking every possible step to achieve its goal. This will remain a dream.”
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Banerjee also said that if necessary, the Trinamool Congress would organize a nationwide agitation by organizing people against the SIR.
The Chief Minister said, “If you hurt me, I will shake the entire country. After the elections are over, I will roam across the country.”
Speaking on the occasion, he also said that due to his ancestral roots in erstwhile East Bengal, in present-day Bangladesh, the BJP could have even termed him a Bangladeshi had he not been born in Birbhum district of West Bengal.
“People are often labeled as Bangladeshi, just because they speak Bengali language. Fortunately, I was born in Birbhum, West Bengal. Otherwise, they (BJP) would have labeled me as Bangladeshi too,” the Chief Minister said.
