Bhopal, Nov 11 (IANS) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said under the government’s three-tier panchayati raj system, sarpanches (village panchayat heads) have been given enough powers and can transform their villages.
Mohan Yadav made these claims while addressing an event – ‘Sarpanch Joint Morcha Conference’ – at Bhopal’s Jamboree Maidan, which saw the participation of various sarpanch associations on Tuesday.
Yadav said, “The caravan of rural development is moving forward with the cooperation of sarpanches. All welfare schemes and development activities at the village level are implemented through panchayats.”
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Gram Panchayats are being given the authority to get work done up to Rs 25 lakh. He also announced that Panchayat representatives will be given Rs 50,000 for development works.
He stressed that like urban bodies, Panchayats should also have a system for planning and implementing development projects. Panchayats will be empowered to prepare village development plans.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also informed that the state government has planned to organize a conference of Panchayat representatives in Bhopal from 24 to 26 November.
He further said that the government has decided to provide offices for Panchayat institutions at all three levels and build community halls in villages.
He said, “Through the strong Panchayati Raj system, the state government with the cooperation of the Panchayat representatives is moving towards self-reliant Panchayat and prosperous Madhya Pradesh.”
Yadav also informed that employment-oriented industries are being set up across the state and the year 2026 will be celebrated as the Year of Agro-Based Industries.
“Food processing units are being opened for vegetables and other crops to increase the income of farmers. Youth are being trained in horticulture and food processing. The aim is to ensure that farmers get fair prices for every crop,” Yadav said.
