The government has formed a high-level multi-disciplinary committee on June 12 to investigate the causes of Air India Flight AI-171 accident from Ahmedabad to Gatvik Airport (London), killing 241 people.
“A high -level multi -disciplinary committee is formed on June 12, 2025 from Ahmedabad to Gatvic Airport (London) to investigate the leading reasons for the Air India Flight AI -171 accident. Reading.
“The committee will not be an option for other inquiries being conducted by relevant organizations, but will focus on preparing the SOP to prevent and handle such incidents in the future,” the order clarified.
“The committee will have access to all records, including others, flight data, cockpit voice recorders, aircraft maintenance records, ATC log and witness testimony,” saying that the committee will publish its report within three months.
It states that the committee will be headed by the Home Secretary and will include representatives of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indian Air Force and Aviation experts.
The committee will assess the emergency response of various stakeholders, including rescue operations and coordination between them. This will suggest policy changes, operational reforms and training enhancements required to prevent such incidents and handle the post-cross event situations.
Given the purpose of the formation of the committee, the order said it was designed to find out the root cause of the accident.
It was also said that the committee would recommend necessary reforms and prepare suitable SOPs to prevent such incidents in future. These SOPs will also include international best practices about preventing and handling such incidents.
The order issued at around 12.40 pm on Saturday said that the committee would assess the emergency response of various stakeholders (both central and state governments), which includes rescue operations and coordination between them.
“The committee will investigate the existing guidelines regarding handling such incidents. And go through the records of previous such aircraft accidents in the country,” it reads.
It was also stated that it would also create a comprehensive SOP and suggest the roles of all agencies and organizations of the Central and State Governments to deal with the post-cross incident and manage the management.

The order states that any other member, which is considered fit by the committee by the committee, can also be included, in which aviation experts, accident investigators and legal advisors can also be included by the committee.

The government said that the committee would cooperate with international agencies if foreign nationals or aircraft manufacturers are included.
