Ottawa – The federal government is expanding the changes made in March in the employment insurance program in response to the trade war with the US
Changes were to help businessmen to maintain workers by reducing their hours and by compensating them through employment insurance for lost wages.
The change in EI came into force in April and was scheduled to end on Saturday.
The office of Job Minister Patty Hazdu says that the changes will be applicable by October 11.
Changes Cap the threshold to qualify for regular EI benefits in 630 hours and allow the contenders to qualify for an additional four weeks benefits.
Temporary EI changes were announced in early March with a $ 6.5 billion aid package to help deal with trade war.
