A brand of gourmet milk chocolate bars has been urgently recalled due to an unlisted allergen.
USA Food and Drug Administration Warning customers that 112 units of Fran’s Pure Bar Almond Milk Chocolate 46% Madagascar Plant-Based Milk Chocolate Bar may contain hazelnuts that are not listed on the label.
The plant-based candy is produced by Seattle-based Fran’s Chocolates, Ltd. and sold in 1.1-ounce packages at four stores in the area. It is on sale online from October 9 to December 15.
The FDA announced the recall on Dec. 20, adding that a customer had reported an allergic reaction to the chocolate. No other illnesses or deaths were noted. Fran didn’t come back immediately The Independent Request for comment.
Health officials say ingredients in the almond milk chocolate tested positive for trace amounts of hazelnuts, leading the manufacturer to discover that it was processed on the same equipment as other products.
“People who are allergic or severely sensitive to hazelnuts may experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the recall notice states. According to the label, the bars already contain trace amounts of milk, peanuts and sesame seeds.
Customers in possession of the chocolate are urged not to eat the product and to contact the company. These bars can be returned to the store for a full refund.
Tree nuts, including hazelnuts, are some of the Most common allergens. Approximately 3.5 million people in the United States are allergic to nuts.
Chocolate bars aren’t the only desserts facing recalls this holiday season. Aldi sells holiday bark The product is also being recalled due to the presence of undeclared allergens in two flavors of the dessert.
Silvestri Sweets Inc. issued a voluntary recall on Dec. 23 due to a packaging mix-up of Choceur brand Holiday Barks, swapping bags of Cookie Butter Holiday Bark with bags of Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark.
This means Cookie Butter flavor may contain undeclared pecans, while Pecan, Cranberry and Cinnamon flavors may contain undeclared wheat.

The affected batch has a best before date of December 15, has a barcode of 4069365328743, and contains eggs, but its ingredients are not mentioned on the label.
