Google updates incognito mode disclaimer after settling $5 billion lawsuit: What’s new

Google has updated its Incognito Mode disclaimer text.

After resolving a $5 billion lawsuit related to Google Chrome’s Incognito mode, Google has carefully updated the disclaimer used to describe the mode.

Google has updated the text it uses to explain how Chrome’s Incognito mode works, following the company’s recent settlement of a lawsuit that alleged it tracked users’ browsing activity. Was tracking illegally. This development, as first spotted by MSPowerUser, can be found in the new Google Chrome Canary build version 122.0.6251.0.

Here’s the updated text for Google Chrome’s new incognito mode:

“Other people using this device won’t see your activity, so you can browse more privately. This does not change how data is collected by the websites you visit and the services you use, including Google. Downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved. learn more”

Previously, in place of the new text, the old text said: “You can now browse privately, and other people using this device won’t see your activity. However, downloads, bookmarks, and reading list items will be saved. learn more”

As you can see, Google has updated the wording, and it now offers more information about what to expect from Chrome’s Incognito mode. This change is a part of Google Chrome across Android, Windows, Mac, and other platforms.

For those of you who may not know, Google was sued for $5 billion for allegedly misleading users with its privacy policy. The lawsuit claimed that Google could track users even if they opted out of tracking. The lawsuit has now been settled, and new text of Google’s privacy policy reflects this settlement.

However, keep in mind, you won’t see this change immediately. It’s only in the Canary build right now, and it will take some time to reach the stable version.
