Google Photos AI editing tool will be free for all users

By | Published | No Comments

Google made a big announcement on Wednesday, opening up its artificial intelligence (AI) editing tools on its Google Photos app to all Android and iOS users. These include the Magic Eraser, Photo Blur, and Portrait Light features introduced on the Pixel 7 series. In addition, non-Pixel users will also have limited access to the Magic Editor tool launched with the Pixel 8 series. Notably, the tech giant made several big announcements this week, including adding new apps to Workspace and bringing Gemini 1.5 Pro into public preview.

this announcement By Dina Berrada, director of product management for Google Photos, she said: “Starting May 15, many of our AI-powered editing tools—like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait light—will be available to anyone using Google Photos To use, no subscription is required. You can also use these features on more devices, including Pixel tablets.”

Magic Eraser functions similarly to Oppo’s AI Erase and Samsung’s Object Eraser. When a user circles a background object in a photo, AI automatically removes it while restoring the background elements. According to Google, Photo Unblur uses machine learning and facial recognition to sharpen blurred images and clarify facial features. Portrait light changes the position of the light source in an image of fewer than four people. Users can also use the slider to change the intensity of the light. All three features will be available for free to all Android and iOS users.

Another AI editing tool that is expanding is Magic Editor. It uses generative artificial intelligence to perform complex photo editing with simple gesture-based actions. It can perform tasks such as repositioning objects, changing backgrounds, and more. The feature is currently only available on the Pixel 8 series, but will be available on all Pixel smartphones after May 15. Additionally, Android and iOS users can use the feature to make up to 10 edits per month. To use other features, users need to subscribe to the Premium Google One plan.

Interestingly, these features will be available to Google Photos users on May 15, the day after Google I/O 2024, the company’s annual developer-focused event. The tech giant is expected to launch Android 15 during the event, which may introduce new artificial intelligence features.
