Google may soon launch Find My Device Network for Android: report

By | Published | No Comments

Google officially announced the launch of its Find My Device network last year, and now it appears to be very close to launching it, according to a report. The feature works similarly to Find My on iPhone, helping users find a lost device as well as accessories connected to it, such as headphones, earbuds, and trackers. Google has reportedly revealed the date it will release the Find My Device web feature to users after nearly a year of development.

according to a Report According to 9to5Google , Google could release the feature on Sunday, April 7, or Monday, April 8. A team member at the publication received an email from Google on Thursday saying the network would be up in three days. While Thursday is three days after Sunday, the feature is more likely to launch on Monday.

The email further adds, “With the new Find My Device network, you can find your devices even when they are offline. You can also find any compatible Quick Pair accessory when it disconnects from your device. Find them. This includes compatible earbuds and headphones, as well as trackers that attach to your wallet, keys, or bike.”

Recently, another Report 9to5Google revealed that some users who signed up for the Google Play Services beta started to see the feature in version v24.12.14. The option appears in the Settings menu and a new page with options to find devices with “no network,” “network only in high-traffic areas,” and “network in all areas.”

The feature uses the vast network of Android smartphones to locate devices, accessories and trackers that have at least once been connected to the device. Google says the feature will also work when the device is offline or turned off. The tech giant has reportedly taken steps to reduce abuse of the feature for harassment or stalking.

Currently, on Android 14, users can find the Find My Device feature at: set up > Google > All services > find my device. However, this redirects the user to the Play Store app, which does not utilize other people’s networks but only the user’s network to locate the device, which is not very useful if the internet is down or the device itself is down.
