Google Maps will now support navigation even when you’re driving inside tunnels: Here’s how

Maps will now work really well inside tunnels

Maps is widely used across Android and iOS devices for navigation, but the tunnels have been a challenge to make work inside the platforms.

How many times have you struggled to turn on your GPS when you’re driving through a tunnel? Even Google Map is not able to help you in these areas but not now. The popular app now has a new Bluetooth feature that can restore location tracking even inside tunnels, which is a boon if you like to walk around in the woods a lot.

So, how is Google doing it? The company is using Bluetooth beacons which is now supported in Maps but it is limited to Android users right now. These beacons exist with Waze (also owned by Google) which operates in several cities around the world.

This is the first time Maps will get this technology which could be life-saving and more for Android users. It took Google so many years to bring the technology to Maps for users but we’re glad it’s finally here. If you go to Settings in Maps you will see the option available but disabled by default, which you can turn on if needed.

How to Enable Bluetooth Beacon on Google Maps

– Go to Settings on Maps by clicking on the profile photo

– Scroll down to Navigation Settings and click on it

– Scroll down the page to Driving Options where you will find Bluetooth Tunnel Beacons

– Enable the feature by rotating the toggle button

– Maps will ask for permission to discover, connect to, and determine the location of nearby devices

– Allow the app to access these sensors and the beacon will work on your phone

It’s likely that after the roll out for Android users is complete, Google will release the feature for those who use Maps on iPhones.
