Google launches new tool to identify unknown callers directly through Pixel mobile app

By | Published | No Comments

Have you ever received a missed call from a number you didn’t recognize? Google Pixel users may soon be able to fix this problem. Google is reportedly developing a new tool called “Lookup” for its mobile app. The tool is designed to help users identify unknown callers before deciding whether to call them back.

Currently, services like Truecaller offer similar functionality, but Google wants to integrate the feature directly into its Phone app. This tool has been developed by a Assembly debugging (pass piumica.com), initially only available to Pixel users in Japan. However, it is now being tested in beta version 127.0.620688474 of the Google Phone app.

Here’s how it works

When users receive a call from an unknown number, they can click on the number in the Recents tab. This will bring up a drop-down menu with the option to use the Find feature. By selecting this option, users can search for numbers online using various applications installed on their phones, including Google Search.

While Lookup can provide useful information about callers, it’s important to note that it relies on web searches and may not always produce detailed results. Therefore, it may not completely replace dedicated caller ID apps like Truecaller. However, it can still be a useful tool in identifying potential scam or nuisance callers.

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, using tactics such as artificial intelligence-generated voices or cloning legitimate business numbers. Therefore, it is crucial to remain vigilant and verify suspicious calls using trusted sources.

As for when the Lookup feature will be available to Pixel users outside of Japan, it’s still unclear. However, since the feature is already in beta testing, it may be included in the next Pixel feature-removing update expected to be released in June.
