A Look Out Circular (LOC) was earlier issued against Gupta and another co-owner Surinder Kumar Khosla. When the police team reached his Delhi home, they found that he was absconding and a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him, ANI reported.
“We have detained Ajay Gupta, one of the owners of the nightclub. He is the sixth person to be arrested in connection with this case,” a Goa Police spokesperson told PTI.
The development comes days after a massive fire broke out at a restaurant-cum-club in Arpora late on Saturday night, resulting in a large number of casualties. Fire in Birch of Romeo Lane in Arpora village of North Goa Four tourists and 21 club employees died.
Interpol issues blue notice against 2 owners
Interpol has issued a blue notice against the two owners of the club – Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra – to trace their whereabouts. Luthra family is reportedly in Thailand Since the incident. The two flew to Phuket at 5.30 am on 7 December, a few hours after the Birch fire.
“This notice will help in locating the accused and will also prevent them from migrating to any other country from their current destination,” Goa Police said in a statement, The Indian Express reported.
Part of the Romeo Lane restaurant was demolished
The district administration on Tuesday demolished part of Romeo Lane restaurant in Vagator, Goa, owned by Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra. Before the demolition, Dheeraj Wagle, deputy director of Goa Tourism, said, “We will demolish the encroachment along the beach. The total area to be demolished is 198 square metres.”
Tourism Minister called the fire a ‘very sad incident’
Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte described the incident as a ‘very sad episode’ and stressed the need for clear accountability and a fact-based investigation into the matter.
“What happened (fire incident) is a very tragic incident. This particular incident happened at Birch by Romeo Lane, which does not come under the purview of the tourism department for registration purposes. All those present there need to be held accountable, and action needs to be initiated…,” ANI quoted him as saying.
“Romeo Lane, which we have demolished because of its illegality, is in Vagator. It has two different components, two different parts… In the event of a fire, an investigation has already been set up, but this investigation needs to come out with a proper factual report,” Khaunte said.
