Panaji, September 29 (IANS) In a crack on illegal forex trading, ED searched under FEMA, 1999 in GOA and seized foreign currency to Rs 3 lakh and to Rs 13 lakh equal to Indian currency, an official said on Monday.
The official said that on 22 September, the search was held on 26 September in the premises of Loja Shamu located in Mipusa Municipal Bazaar, Mapusa, Goa.
The ED, Panaji Zonal Office conducted the search operation on the basis of the airport customs, Goa, the seizure of foreign currency of $ 35,000.
The official said in a statement that during the discoveries on 26 September, the ED also confiscated evidence and two mobile phones.
Earlier this month, Ed’s Panaji Zonal Office conducted a search operations in 13 residential and commercial complexes in Goa and Hyderabad in terms of Yeshwant Sawant and others.
Under the provisions of prevention of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in relation to illegal land of communed land in Goa, on 9-10 September.
The ED launched an investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by Goa Police under various sections of IPC, 1860 regarding illegal acquisition of land related to communal land.
According to the ED, “Investigation and search operations have revealed that the accused individuals illegally mutated the land of more than 3,50,000 square meters, located in the major areas of Goa, such as Anjun and Asgon, using fake old documents in their names, which were presented to the officials concerned to facilitate the mutation process.”
In addition, a portion of these properties was sold to various individuals, from which the Crers (POC) was sold for the tune of crores of rupees.
The ED said in a press statement, “The total market assessment of the illegally caught land parcels by the accused persons is expected to exceed Rs 1,200 crore.”
During the search tasks, the cash amount of about Rs 72 lakh was confiscated, and the seven high -end vehicles, ie. Porsche Keman, BMW 650 L., Range Rover, Mercedes -Benz, BMW M5 and Audi A -6 were seized.
