Germany announced Gaza Air Bridge, indicating pressure on Israel

The German government in collaboration with Jordan has unveiled an immediate plan to establish a human air bridge for Gaza, while the Palestinian Enclave has indicated possible measures to pressurize Israel to reduce strict humanitarian crisis.

After a meeting of the Federal Security Cabinet on Monday, German Chancellor Frederick Merz announced that Berlin would immediately start implementing the Air Bridge Scheme.

He said that the Defense Minister Boris Boris would closely coordinate the operation with Pistorius France and the United Kingdom, both expressed readiness to participate, according to the German news agency.

At the same time, the Chancellor said that his government has reserved the right to take specific steps towards Israel to increase pressure for better human reach, given that the security cabinet discussed the options available without taking final decisions.

“We reserve the right to take such measures,” Merz said, saying that any German action will be submitted to the European Commission as a proposal, while decisions regarding the export of arms are under the right to the classified Federal Security Council.

He indicated that Berlin waited for the result of the upcoming visit of Foreign Minister Johann Fedful in the region on Thursday – before his British and French counterparts decide on and further steps. (AI/WAM)
