The President of Germany will pay a state visit to the United Kingdom in early December, buckingham palace Said on Monday.
King Charles III and queen camila will host Frank Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Buddenbender at Windsor Castle from December 3-5.
While Steinmeier has visited the UK on several occasions, this visit will be the first in 27 years, and the fifth since 1958, during which a German head of state will be welcomed on a formal state visit – a unique experience for any visiting dignitary.
Such visits include all the best pomp and pageantry that Britain has to offer, including a salute from soldiers wearing tall bearskin hats, carriage rides and a lavish state banquet. These events often celebrate close relations between Britain and its allies, but they can also be used to pressure less friendly states into making concessions.
Invitations for state visits are given by the monarch at the request of the elected government.

In a speech in which the king switched from English to German, Charles emphasized the centuries-long close ties between the United Kingdom and Germany, including his own family’s ties to the Royal House of Hanover, and the current economic, scientific, cultural and military cooperation between the two countries.
