Georgia election judge rejects some of Trump’s claims

The judge overseeing Georgia’s election interference case dismissed some charges against former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, but many other counts in the indictment remained.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee wrote in an order that six counts in the indictment, including one targeting 2024 Republican presidential candidate Trump, must be dismissed Three counts.

But the order left in place other charges, the judge wrote, and prosecutors could seek new indictments on the charges he dismissed.

The six charges involve inciting elected officials to violate their oaths of office. They include two charges related to Trump’s Jan. 2, 2021, phone call with fellow Republican Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

“That’s all I want to do. I just want to find 11,780 votes, one more than we have,” Trump said.

The case accuses Trump and 18 others of conspiring to overturn his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the state. Trump has pleaded not guilty.

The ruling comes as McAfee also considers a request from the defendants to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the case. The defendants allege Willis had a conflict of interest due to her romantic relationship with special counsel Nathan Wade.
