Gaza is the deadliest place for children: UNICEF

The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has warned that Gaza Strip has become the most dangerous place in the world for children, with no safe area, after the death of more than 45 Palestinian children amidst Israeli attacks alone in the last two days.

Regional Director of UNICEF, Middle East and North Africa, Adordard Beigbedr said that children are being targeted at places that should be safe, such as hospitals, schools, shelters and even displacement tents. He insisted that in the last 19 months, Gaza has become increasingly fatal for children.

Beigbeder revealed that in the last two months more than 950 Palestinians have been killed by an airstrikes, while those who face serious difficulties, including tireless bombing and excessive reduction of food, water and infrastructure.

He said that the blockade on human assistance is deteriorating the crisis, given that danger for children expands to include hunger, disease and contaminated water beyond bullets.

Beigbeder insisted that children’s rights have been violated in systematic and daily events, calling for immediate international action to eliminate these abuses and to ensure children’s protection from violence and loss of life.

He immediately renewed for UNICEF call for the ceasefire, respect for the International Humanitarian Law, Human Access, Security of Citizens and the release of prisoners. (AI/WAM)
