Lucknow, October 29 (IANS) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while chairing a high-level review meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Expressway Development Authority (UPEIDA) on Wednesday, said that expressways are not just roads but are the backbone of the economy and industrial future of Uttar Pradesh.
He directed the officials to ensure that the construction of Ganga Expressway is completed by December, stressing that the progress should be expedited to strengthen the connectivity between the western and eastern regions of the state.
The Chief Minister also ordered a weekly review of the progress of each project and stressed that no compromise on quality would be tolerated.
The meeting also reviewed the proposed expansion of the Ganga Expressway – which includes the Meerut-Haridwar, Noida-Jewar, and Chitrakoot-Rewa Link Expressways – as well as the planned Vindhya Expressway and Vindhya-Purvanchal Link Expressway, which will connect Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Chandauli, and Sonbhadra.
CM Yogi directed that while planning new expressways, full alignment with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) network should be maintained to prevent overlap and ensure an integrated, coordinated road infrastructure across the state.
The Chief Minister also directed to set up skill development centers at all nodes of the Defense Industrial Corridor in Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, Aligarh and Chitrakoot.
He said that these centers should provide technical training to local youth, link them with the defense industry to create employment opportunities and promote regional self-reliance.
The meeting was informed that investment proposals worth about Rs 30,819 crore have been received for the defense corridor, in which 5,039 acres of land has been acquired and many companies are already starting operations.
Highlighting the state’s land allotment policy, the Chief Minister said that if an investor fails to utilize the allotted land within three years, the allotment should be automatically cancelled.
He directed the officials to establish a transparent system to monitor land use and provide further facilities to investors only on the basis of actual progress.
The meeting also reviewed UPEIDA’s time-bound plan to attract investment in industrial clusters and logistics parks being developed along the expressway. The plan includes ensuring reliable electricity and water supplies, truck terminals, way stations, and health and emergency facilities.
