Gandhi's game plan against Amisi and Rabarelli is full of suspense

New Delhi:

The Congress party tonight announced another list of candidates, leaving only three seats up in the air in Uttar Pradesh, including Raebareli, a Gandhi stronghold, and Amethi, the latter of which is against the Congress. Voted en masse for Smriti Irani of the BJP in 2019.

Although Rahul Gandhi filed his candidature from Wayanad yesterday, there was no news about the fate of Amethi, who won three times but ultimately lost to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Sonia Gandhi, the sitting MP from Raebareli, moved to the upper house of parliament.

Congress wants Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to take over her mother’s seat, while Rahul Gandhi is once again trying to win back Amethi.

The BJP camp is watching the situation with glee and says Mr Gandhi is not too keen on Amethi for fear of another defeat.

They also pointed out that the Gandhi family was not a regular visitor to Rabarelli and Amisi. Mr Gandhi passed through his erstwhile constituency during his recent Hindutva, after a long time. The Gandhi family does not even own a house in the constituency.

There are fears that if the Gandhi brothers decide to contest from these two seats, their long absence will figure prominently in the campaign of the BJP, which is keen to bring the Gandhi bastion into its fold.

The party is targeting 370 seats this time, with the lion’s share expected to come from Uttar Pradesh, which has 80 seats.

Congressional sources said the party’s electoral committee will meet on April 5 and will make a final decision on the issues of Amisi and Rabarelli.
