Chandigarh:

Mobile internet services were restored in seven districts of Haryana on Sunday, nearly two weeks after they were suspended in view of the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation, officials said.

Services were stopped in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad. And the suspension was extended to Sirsa on 11 February and 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23 and 24 February.

Officials said no new order has been issued to extend the suspension of mobile services in the seven districts.

According to an earlier order issued by the Home Department, the restrictions were imposed “to prevent any disturbance to peace and public order in the jurisdiction of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa including Dabwali in Haryana”.

Residents welcomed the government’s decision.

“The resumption of mobile internet services after a gap of several days is a big relief,” said Kamal, a resident of Ambala.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher had said on Friday that the farmers will remain at both the border points till February 29, when the next action will be decided.
