Hundreds of schools across UK closed today Storm Chandra brings strong windsThere are more than 100 warnings for heavy rain and floods.

More than 350 schools have been confirmed to be closed in Northern Ireland and 47 in Devon.

Northern Ireland is experiencing severe weather, with the Met Office issuing a yellow wind warning in the east, as well as a yellow warning Wind and rain covered all areas.

In Devon, a severe flood warning has been issued for the River Otter, indicating a potential danger to life. Earlier, firefighters in Devon and Cornwall rescued 25 people from vehicles trapped in floodwaters.

Many other areas of the UK also Yellow weather warning overlayincluding parts of South Wales and Cornwall, the South East and the North. A yellow warning has also been issued for much of southern and central Scotland.

Richard Foord, Lib Dem MP for Honiton and Sidmouth, said it was “a truly horrific night” and confirmed the River Otter had reached its “highest levels ever recorded”.

“Flooding is expected this morning and heavy rain will continue throughout the day. We expect some levees to be breached,” he posted on social media.

The severe weather has disrupted travel across the UK, with a number of roads and rail lines closed. Many airports are also experiencing lengthy delays, with some flights from Belfast and Scotland canceled on Tuesday.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) said around 10,000 properties are currently without power and the service is responding. Meanwhile, overnight ferries on Stena Line in both directions between Liverpool and Belfast were canceled, with morning flights from Belfast to Liverpool remaining in the port.

Met Office Chief forecaster Paul Gundersen said: “Storm Chandra will bring a range of dangers to the UK on Monday night and Tuesday. Strong winds will initially affect the Isles of Scilly, west Cornwall and south-west Wales, which remain vulnerable after Storm Goretti, where gusts of 70 to 80mph are possible. “Heavy rain is an additional danger as it falls on saturated ground in Dorset and Devon, Somerset and south Cornwall.

“As Chandra interacts with colder air further north Snow Higher areas in the Pennines, southern Scotland and the Highlands could receive 10 to 20 centimeters of snow, making it a hazard. As the weather can change, it’s important that people stay informed of the latest weather forecast and any warnings for your area. “
