The SIR (Special Information Form used by the Election Commission for voter registration) process is progressing rapidly in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh, with booth level officers (BLOs) going door-to-door, checking people’s documents and adding them to the list.

But what about those who have fled their homes and are living here – will they get SIR? How important are the father’s information and his documents for SIR? A daughter who has broken ties with her family due to some relationship and now lives with her in-laws – how will she have a SIR? A couple who left their home after a love marriage – how will their SIR be made? There are a lot of questions and BLO has answers to all of them.

When Local 18 spoke to the BLO of Mughalsarai over phone regarding this matter, he told that the SIR form is an important form issued by the Election Commission. In this form the person fills all his information. This form is used to add a name to the voter list, update address, correct age or correct an error. If it is filled correctly, the application is approved quickly, but if there are mistakes, the form is returned and the process becomes lengthy.

Names will be included only after verification

When asked how SIR will be done for those who have fled from their home or village and are now living here, the BLO said that SIR of such people is possible only if they provide proof of their current address, an identity card and necessary documents related to their place of origin.

Only after verification the BLO or the concerned officer will include them in the list. If the documents are incomplete, they must first be completed before the SIR process can proceed.

Alternative documents must be provided

Many people want to know how important the father’s information or his documents are for SIR. The BLO said that generally, father’s name, Aadhaar or other identity documents are important to confirm family identity and lineage in SIR. If father’s documents are not available, the applicant must provide his own identity proof, documents establishing family relationship or alternative proof.

The SIR process runs smoothly only when the correct documents are submitted.

SIR will be done only after the documents are available

As to how the SIR will be made for a daughter who has severed ties with her parents due to affair and now lives with her husband’s family, the BLO told Local18 that in such cases, the SIR is made on the basis of her current residence and documents related to her husband.

If parental information or documents are not available, verification is done using marriage related documents, identity proof and current address proof. Once the correct document is available its SIR is prepared.

Access is based on verification

When asked how SIR will be made for a couple who leaves their home after a love marriage, the BLO said that in such cases, SIR is made on the basis of their present residence. They will have to provide identity proof, marriage related documents and proof of new address.

If documents are not available from the parents’ home or in-laws’ home, alternative identity proof and local verification are used. Once the required documents are available, the BLO completes his SIR.

It is noteworthy that after door-to-door verification, the draft voter list will be published on December 9, 2025. Citizens can file claims or objections related to their names from December 9, 2025 to January 8, 2026.

The final voter list will be published on 7 February 2026.
