Colina is in favor of VAR for corners
FIFA refereeing chief Pierluigi Collina is in favor of using VAR to rule on corners at next summer’s World Cup, saying it would be a pity if matches were decided by an “honest mistake” by the referee.
Earlier this week it was reported that FIFA was keen to expand VAR protocols to cover corner kicks in finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
For that to happen at this final stage, it would have to be adopted as a test by the sport’s law-making body, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which is holding its annual business meeting next month.
Speaking in Washington DC on the eve of the World Cup final draw, Colina, chairman of FIFA’s referees committee, said: “I think making the right decisions on the field of play should be the aim of all of us.”
Alexander-Arnold ready for magic on the sidelines
Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to return to the sidelines after Real Madrid confirmed he has suffered a left foot injury.
The former Liverpool full-back impressed during Wednesday evening’s 3-0 LaLiga win at Athletic Bilbao and had a hand in Real’s opening two goals.

Shaka Hislop reveals prostate cancer diagnosis
Former Newcastle, West Ham and Portsmouth goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has revealed he has prostate cancer, which has now spread to his pelvic bone.
The 56-year-old was diagnosed with “quite aggressive” prostate cancer about 18 months ago, which required surgery.
Further tests revealed that the cancer had spread.
Hislop, a former Trinidad and Tobago international, urged men of Caribbean heritage to get tested for the disease.
