A French An appeals court on Thursday handed down a rigorous 10-year prison sentence to the only man who challenged his conviction for drugging and raping Gisele Pellicot while she was unconscious, French media reported.
Husemettin Dogan, a 44-year-old construction worker, was sentenced to nine years in prison last year in the first drug and rape trial that shook France and turned Pélicot into a global icon against sexual violence. The appeal jury consisted of three judges as well as ordinary citizens. The first trial, which gave Dogan a lesser sentence, was heard by five judges.
The other 50 people convicted last December did not appeal the landmark verdict. These included Gisele Pellicot’s ex-husband Dominique Pellicot, who drugged her food and drinks to render her unconscious and introduced her to strangers he met online between 2011 and 2020, and filmed his attacks.

The punishment for other convicted persons ranged from three to 15 years’ imprisonment. One of them was convicted of drugging and raping his own wife with the help of Dominic Pellicote.
