freddy steward has disclosed tiktok dance by four England The stars, which have been going viral since the recent New Zealand win, were filmed a few days before the game and were not intended to jibe with the All Blacks.
Steward’s footage, finn smithHenry Pollock and tommy freeman The performance, choreographed to Irish dance music, has been viewed 12 million times and liked 1.5 million times.
After defeating New Zealand 33–19 at Allianz Stadium on 15 November, Freeman released the clip, captioned “The post-game experience!”.
Stewards insist that the routine, which was implemented as a light penalty for breaking squad rules, was never meant to be published on social media.
“It needs to be cleaned up. We actually filmed the dance on the Wednesday before the New Zealand Test, but Tommy took it upon himself to upload it after full-time,” the England full-back said.
“It seemed like we were being silly and a little cocky, so I was a little irritated with Tommy.
“The timing was a little inappropriate but we were just laughing. You wouldn’t believe how bored we get sometimes in camp.
“We had a lot of free time in the evening, we were in the room and thought we’d just have a bit of fun – with no intention of going anywhere. Tommy thought he’d set us all up…
“After he posted I said to him, ‘You’ve blown it now’. That’s one and done. I’ll never get involved in this again because he’s thrown me under the bus.
“It took longer than you would believe. It took a while to film – about 20 minutes. Probably my fault, I’m not a freelance guy.
“I’ve never really put myself out there to that extent. It’s crazy to see what happened behind it. It’s almost got 10 million views, which is mind-blowing. Hopefully there’ll be a good response.”
“It’s stupid and it’s silly, but it’s growing the game and hopefully it’s attracting… I’m not sure who it’s attracting, but hopefully some new fans and the younger generation.”
England performed well on the pitch as well as on social media with their 27-23 win over Argentina on Sunday, extending their winning streak to 11 Tests.
Their next assignment is against Wales at Twickenham on February 7 and as they enter the Six Nations amid high expectations, Steward says restraint must be exercised.
“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We’ve played a lot of good games, we’ve had some wins, but we haven’t had any serious wins yet,” he said.
“This Six Nations will be a fair test and I have no doubt that when we get to the Six Nations we will be ready to go.”
