Jammu, 23 August: Police claimed that Nexus was busted with a fraud at Chura in Akhnoor on Saturday, including a woman as a bride, including a woman.
In a handout to GNS, police said that on 11.08.2025, Police Station Akhanur registered FIR No. 140/2025 U/S 318 (4)/82 (2)/61 (2) after receiving a complaint about BNS. The show was investigated by IC PP Outpost Chauka, Vinay Kotwal under close supervision of the show Akhanur and SDPO Akhanur.
According to the complaint, Deepak Kumar S/O Baldev Raj R/O Dhana Chapari, Chowki Chaura contacted the complainant Rashpal Chand S/O Chaatru Ram R/O Dori Dagger, Outpost Chura, who demanded a marriage proposal from outside the union area and demanded ₹ 3 lakh. After marriage, the bride ran away within two days, along with other companions, cheating the complainant.
Investigation revealed that the gang was operating Nexus under the guise of a marriage bureau. The racket managed everything, including the bride, priest (Pandit) and arrangements for related formalities. Shortly after the wedding, the bride will leave the complainant to an excuse or to another.
Due to social stigma, many victims refrained from reporting such incidents. However, in this case, timely reporting achieved a major success.
The arrested five accused are identified as Deepak Kumar S/O Baldev Raj R/O Dhana Chapari, Chowki Chaura, Vikas Kumar* S/O Netar Parkash R/O Pomche, Arun Kumar* S/O Raj Kumar R/O Bihar. Isistakhar s/o salim r/o north predic and Kusum Lata R/O Uttar Pradesh (bride).
The investigation is on, and further arrests are not denied. In particular, four more similar cases have been reported, two from Akhnoor and two from Nagrota, where the inquiry is currently in progress.
The complete investigation by SP Rural Jammu and SSP Jammu is being closely monitored.
The Jammu Police appealed to the public to be vigilant against such fraud activities and immediately report such incidents to the nearest police station. This Nexus mainly targets weak individuals, especially those who are unable to find a suitable match or are oversees for marriage, reads the statement.
