Gehry died at his home on Friday Santa Monica after a brief respiratory illness, said Meghan Lloyd, chief of staff at Gehry Partners LLP.
Gehry won every major award that architecture has to offer.
Gehry’s fascination with modern Pop Art led to the creation of some of the most wildly imaginative buildings ever constructed and earned him worldwide admiration that few architects have ever received.
His many masterpieces include the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain; at walt disney concert hall los angeles and Berlin’s DZ Bank Building.
Gehry has been awarded every major architecture award, including the field’s top honor, the Pritzker Prize, for work described as “refreshingly original and thoroughly American.”
Other honors include Royal Institute of British Architects Gold Medal and Americans for the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award.
