A fourth man was arrested and charged Friday in connection with a shooting that left two people dead and 12 others wounded in a busy downtown nightlife district in Alabama’s capital in early October, police said.
Kemonte Hood, 21, is charged with one count of murder and 12 counts of assault. montgomery Police.
Hood is the fourth person charged in the Oct. 4 shooting, which happened just before midnight in a bustling part of the city’s downtown filled with bars, hotels and restaurants. Police An unnamed juvenile was also arrested last Friday, along with 19-year-old Dentavius McGhee on Monday on capital murder charges and 19-year-old Javorik Whiting on Thursday on attempted murder charges.
It was not immediately known whether Hood or others had attorneys who could comment for them. Online jail records do not list attorneys for him.
Police said a 43-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy died. Investigators said they determined that several people fired weapons into the crowd shortly after the Tuskegee-Morehouse College football game ended, a day after celebrating the longtime rivalry of the two historically black schools. At the time, five of the injured had life-threatening injuries and seven had non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators have not said what sparked the shooting, but they said the initial gunfire targeted one of the 14 victims, prompting several people to draw their weapons and return fire. Seven 14 of the victims were under the age of 20, and the youngest was 16 years old. At least two of the victims were armed.
Police said several weapons and shells were recovered from the scene and more arrests were expected.
