Four men murder Indian-origin delivery driver in England

Four Indian-origin men in their 20s were found guilty on Thursday of murdering a 23-year-old Indian-origin delivery driver following an attack in Shrewsbury, western England.

In August last year, local police in West Mercia received reports of an attack in the Berwick Avenue area of ​​the city and subsequently arrested four men on suspicion of murder. Oman Singh was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arshdeep Singh, 24, Jagdeep Singh, 22, Shivdeep Singh, 26, and Manjo, 24 Manjot Singh, who was armed with weapons including an axe, a hockey stick and a shovel, was charged with Singh’s murder.

Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Mark Bellamy of West Malaysia Police said: “The attack on Oman Singh was planned and organized by a group of men who armed themselves and used a level of violence , which can only show that they intended to kill him.” , who led the investigation.

He said: “They used inside information to select a location where they knew he would be and lay in wait before carrying out a brutal attack in broad daylight.”

All four men denied murder but were found guilty by a jury this week after a six-week trial at Stafford Crown Court. A fifth Indian-origin man, 23-year-old Sukhmandeep Singh, believed to be an “insider” who sent information about Orman’s delivery on the day of his murder, was found guilty of manslaughter crime.

The court heard that none of the men had any connection with Shrewsbury or the West Mercia Police counties, where Oman Singh’s murder last year had a significant impact on the local community.

DCI Bellamy added: “We are extremely grateful for the support from local residents and those who have provided vital information to assist our investigations and provide evidence in court.

“Today’s sentencing should send a strong message to those who think they have access to our towns and cities to commit violent crime, and we will not stop working to find them and bring them before court.”

Police said it was a complex investigation involving police forces from across the country. Oman Singh’s family issued a statement saying they were at a loss for words to explain the impact the tragedy had had on them.

“Today a mother will grow old without a son. A sister will grow up without a brother. We don’t want what happened to us to happen to another family. This is an unbearable loss for us , it changed our lives,” the family statement read:

“We will live with this but our happiness and will to survive is not there. We would like to thank the police for their diligent investigation and supporting us through this difficult time,” it added.

Throughout the trial, no evidence emerged to explain the motive behind the brutal attack on Oman Singh.
