Four in Nia Chargesheet CPI (MAOIST) and Naxalite terrorist funding case in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi, October 1 (IANS) National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary charge sheet against four more accused in a case related to the promotion of CPI (MAOIST) activities in Chhattisgarh and a supplementary charge sheet against the accused, in a statement by the investigating agency on Wednesday.

The accused have been seen as Sunita Potam, Shankar Muchaki, Dasharatha alias Dasru Modium and Mallesh Kunjam.

According to NIA, Sunita, Shankar, and Dasharatha, a frontal organization of CPI (Maoist) was the office carriers of Mulwasi Bachao Manch (MBM), which was banned by the Government of Chhattisgarh by the Government of Chhattisgarh in the Chhattisgarh Special Public Safety Act, 2005. Mallesh, an armed cadre of CPI (Maoist), remains absconding.

Investigations have revealed that all four were actively engaged in furthering, collecting, storing and distributing the extremist agenda of CPI (MAOIST).

The NIA said that these funds were used to organize protests against the democratically elected government and obstruct development work in the state. MBM and other such frontal bodies allegedly worked as a condenser to channel these illegal funds.

With the latest allegations, the number of accused in the case has increased to seven, out of which six have been arrested.

The case returned by May 2023, when Bijapur police stopped MBM workers Gajendra Madi and Laxman Kunjam in cash of Rs 6 lakh.

Both were allegedly transporting funds to deposit in several bank accounts on the instructions of CPI (MAOIST) leaders. He was charged by Bijapur police in November 2023.

The investigation was later handled by the NIA in February 2024, and the central agency filed its first supplementary charge sheet in August 2025, with Gajendra and Laxman, along with another accused Raghu Mediami, added new allegations.

The current charge sheet strengthens the case against CPI (MAOIST) network, which is working in Chhattisgarh through foreground workers, sympathizers and frontal organizations such as MBM.

The NIA has said that its investigation is still going on in the case of RC -02/2023/NIA/RPR, and efforts are on to catch the absconding accused.
