Kolkata, September 30 (IANS) Police on Tuesday arrested four persons, including the owner of a restaurant to seriously attack a Kolkata Police intelligence department officer.
The incident took place in Howrah district.
The injured officer has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
According to the police, there was a fight between two parties at a residence on SN Ganguly Road in Chatterjhat police station area of Howrah.
At that time, outsiders were allegedly brought to defeat Amit Kumar Singh, Deputy Inspector of Intelligence Department.
The complaint is registered against Manas Roy, another resident of the residential complex.
A complaint was filed against him immediately after the incident.
According to police sources, an investigation was initiated and CCTV footage was investigated.
Based on investigation and CCTV footage, four people, including Manas Roy, were arrested.
A case has been registered against all the four accused under several non-bailable sections, including murder and molesting attempts.
A senior Howrah Police official said, “Four persons have been arrested on the basis of a complaint that a sub-encoder of an intelligence department of Kolkata Police was beaten after a scuffle. A case has been registered under the relevant sections. The investigation has started.”
The injured police officer’s wife told the media persons, “Some employees of Manas Roy’s restaurant live in this residential complex. Due to security reasons, they were asked to provide their names and identity cards before entering. When they were asked for their identity card in the morning, then, there was a quarrel. A quarrel was brought from outside and attacked people from outside. My husband was seriously injured.”
The family of the accused, however, accused the Deputy Superintendent of the Intelligence Department of beating them.
Manas’s nephew Tuhin Roy said, “The police officer beat up our restaurant employees. This argument started. This fight was started by him. We will also make a complaint against him.”
