Four dead, after injuring three, the car falls into a ditch in North Bengal

Police said on Saturday that Kolkata, October 4 (IANS) In a tragic accident, four people were killed and three others were injured after drowning in a 50 -foot deep moat near Kalinskong in North Bengal.

According to police, the accident took place last night. He said that the vehicle was traveling from Patharjora to Gangtok in Sikkim on Friday night, when it fell into the gorge in the Meli Kirani area along National Highway 10 under the boundary of Kalimpong Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as the driver, Kamal Subba (44), Sammy Subba, a woman and two residents of Bojujri in the 20s as Januka Dorji and Neeta Gurung.

Police said three more people suffered serious injuries. They are Sunita Thapa, Sandria Rai and Samiul Dorji. They are undergoing treatment at Meli Sikkim Hospital.

Local people said that the incident occurred due to the dazzling of the headlights of another car coming from another direction. However, the police is investigating the case.

A senior Kalimpong District Police official said, “An accident occurred last night. One car fell into a ditch. Four were killed and three were injured. The injured are being treated in a hospital in Sikkim. The bodies have been sent for post -mortem.”

Incidentally, heavy rains have provoked North Bengal, road condition deteriorating in recent times and landslides in many areas of North Bengal. North Bengal is expected to receive more rainfall in the coming days.

On Saturday, the Meteorological Office maintained a red warning for Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, forecasting more than 200 mm of rain in some parts of these districts. An orange warning has been issued for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar and North Dijpur, while Malda and South Dinajpur are under a yellow alert.
