Chennai, Nov 25 (IANS) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will announce its election alliance on December 30, party founder Dr S. Ramadoss said after a high-level party meeting convened at Thailampuram Estate in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district on Tuesday.
The meeting took place amid internal turmoil within the party, with a section of administrators reportedly distancing themselves from Dr Ramadoss and party president Anbumani Ramadoss.
Despite factional tensions, the Villupuram meeting saw the participation of the entire organizational machinery of the party.
PMK honorary president GK Mani, former party president T. Thirumavalavan (Thirun), party general secretary Murali Shankar, MLA Arul, headquarters secretary Anbazhagan, senior state administrators, district secretaries and key district level leaders were present for the important discussion.
According to sources, Dr Ramadoss chaired the meeting and held extensive discussions with district secretaries and office-bearers on two main questions – which party the PMK should ally with in the upcoming elections, and which constituencies the party should contest.
It is noteworthy that PMK was a part of NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and 2021 state assembly elections.
The PMK founder reportedly sought the views of district leaders before formulating the framework for taking the final decision.
After the meeting, Dr. Ramadoss addressed the media and announced that a general committee meeting would be held at Thalaiwal, Attur in Salem district on December 30.
“There will be a general committee meeting to discuss the strategy of the alliance. The final decision will be taken based on discussions with party officials during the meeting,” he said.
He also said that the PMK would organize a statewide protest on December 12 against the Tamil Nadu government for failing to conduct caste-based census.
Accusing the Tamil Nadu government of ignoring long-standing demands for updated caste data, Dr Ramadoss said the PMK will intensify its agitation unless the state commits to carrying out the enumeration.
This development comes at a politically sensitive moment for the PMK.
With the Lok Sabha elections around the corner and key alliances in Tamil Nadu still in flux, the party’s stance is being closely watched.
Internal divisions between Dr Ramadoss and Anbumani Ramadoss loyalists have added a layer of uncertainty, making the upcoming general committee meeting crucial for the party’s electoral direction.
As both the national and regional fronts are attempting to woo the influential Vanniyar-based party, the December 30 announcement is expected to play a key role in shaping the pre-poll scenario in Tamil Nadu.
