Former Universal Chairman David Lind named Sundance Institute CEO

David Lind, Past Chairman universal pictures and CEO Member of Participant Media named CEO of Sundance Institute. The nonprofit said Thursday that Lind will take over the role after this year’s festival ends on Feb. 17.

“I am honored to join the Sundance Institute as CEO, managing an organization that is vital to independent artists, the broader creative community and culture at large,” Lind said in a statement.

His responsibilities will include overseeing the Sundance Film Festival’s boulderColorado, 2027, as well as managing Sundance Institute’s year-round programming, including artist labs, grants, and scholarships.

one Hollywood Lind is a veteran who has worked in television and film for decades, co-founding Focus Features and overseeing numerous Oscar Nominees and winners in various roles. During his time at Participant, which shuttered in 2024, Lind produced two Best Picture winners: “Spotlight” and “Green Book.” He also produced Arrival.

The Sundance Film Festival has been operating under interim CEO Amanda Kelso since Joana Vicente resigned in early 2024. Vincent succeeds Keri Putnam in 2021. The academy’s most high-profile event, the annual Sundance Film Festival, is gearing up for its final edition next week in Park City, Utah.

“David’s rare combination of industry fluency, social cause stewardship, and deep commitment to artists allows the organization to build on our legacy while advancing our future mission,” Ebs Burnough, chairman of the Sundance Institute’s board of directors, said in a statement.
