Former underworld don Muthappa Rai’s son shot in Karnataka

Police said on Saturday that the son of late underworld don N Muthappa Rai was allegedly shot by unknown assailants near his residence in Bidadi here. He said that Ricky Rai is currently undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru.

The incident took place near his residence between 1 pm to 1.30 pm (late Friday night) when he was traveling to Bangalore from Bidadi in his car.

According to police, some unknown people allegedly set fire to three rounds, and a bullet hit the vehicle. He was sitting behind with his gunman, when injuring both the driver and the opinion, the driver was shot through the seat.

Citing an initial investigation, a senior police officer said Ricky, who usually drives himself, hurts her nose and weapons. Both the driver and Rikki are said to be out of danger.

Ricky was first taken to a private hospital in Bidadi and later sent to Manipal Hospital for advanced treatment.

Based on his driver’s complaint, a case has been registered against Muthappa Rai’s second wife, Anuradha, entrepreneur Rakesh Malli (once close to Muthappa), and Niketan Trust, and said Niketan Trust, a senior police officer.

He said that CCTV cameras installed in and around the area are being scanned to identify the suspects and find the sequence of incidents that came out, they said.

Teams have been formed, and efforts are being made to nab the suspects involved in the shootout.

Karnataka Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar said that he knows about the incident and has sought details from police officers.

“I was told that the incident took place at 1:30 or 2 pm. I have sought details. He (Ricky) has been admitted to Manipal Hospital and I have been told that he is out of danger. The police have deployed additional force and started investigation on the spot.”
