Former Pakistan PM Sherbaz Sharif challenges Imran Khan’s public policy initiatives

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said he would support independent candidates if Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) wins a majority in Pakistan’s National Assembly. of parties will sit in the opposition seats. “If PTI-sponsored candidates can get majority votes [in the National Assembly] Then they should form the government,” Shehbaz Sharif said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad as he challenged PTI-backed candidates to take majority in the House of Representatives.

“I want to make it clear that PTI pushed the country to the brink of default and we saved the country,” Shehbaz Sharif said, referring to the 2022 attempt to oust Imran Khan in a no-confidence vote Imran Khan’s Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance.

Sherbaz Sharif once again claimed that the Muslim League-Sharif faction had a majority in central and Punjab provinces. “We now have 80 members after independents joined our party,” Sharif said, claiming more independents would join his party.

“We will happily accept them (but) if they do not do so, then we will invoke our constitutional and legal rights,” he further added.

Meanwhile, PTI said it has decided to contest for Speaker, Prime Minister and other posts.

It also ruled out an alliance with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Quami-Pakistan (MQM-P).

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who remains in Adiala jail in multiple cases, said both parties were money launderers. “Those who are brought to dominance are the biggest money launderers,” Imran Khan said. He further slammed the PML-N for lying about the victory.

“Both Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz lost both elections. We will also approach the Supreme Court over the poll results,” Khan said.

He also announced while addressing reporters that Ali Amin Gandapur would be the party’s candidate for the chief ministership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “The chief minister of Khyber will be Ali Amin Gandapur,” he said.
